New Release: The Other Mother + A Year-Long Mystery You Can Live Inside
Share
Two big things today:
-
My new standalone psychological thriller, The Other Mother, is out now.
-
We welcomed a new little human into the family on Oct 5. River James arrived at 8 lbs 10 oz and 20 inches, and he’s perfect. I’m running on love, coffee, and newborn snuggles.
While the baby naps, I wanted to share a bit about the book, the inspiration behind it, and a mystery experience I think you’ll love while you wait for my next release.
About The Other Mother
Set in the shimmering quiet of the California desert, The Other Mother follows Claire, a new mom who cannot shake the feeling that something about her baby’s birth is wrong. A blanket she doesn’t remember. A neighbor’s memory that doesn’t match the photos. Emails that shouldn’t exist. When a support group “friend” confronts her with a single devastating accusation, Claire starts pulling threads she was never meant to touch. What unravels is a network of lies, a marriage built on secrets, and a choice that will rewrite more than one life.
Expect:
-
A quick, twisty read with short chapters and a relentless pace
-
Memory gaps, “corrupt” files, and ordinary tech used in very unsettling ways
-
Desert nights, support group whispers, and a pink blanket that won’t let go
-
A morally gray husband who may be protecting Claire… or a secret
-
An ending that lands hard and lingers
If you enjoy Freida McFadden, Lisa Jewell, or the kind of thriller that makes you question every “normal” detail, this one’s for you.

The spark behind the story
This book started with a small, itchy idea: a single detail that doesn’t match. I kept thinking about a car seat I remembered as gray, but every photo showed white. That tiny mismatch became a feeling I couldn’t shake. What if your own memories refuse to line up with the evidence everyone else trusts?
From there, the story grew into a tangle of late-night monitor glow, hospital hallways, and the hush of a support group circle. I wanted to write a thriller about motherhood, identity, and the way fear can make even the safest spaces feel haunted.

Life update
Thank you for all the kind messages during the last stretch of pregnancy. We’re home and settling in. There was a little drama on day two with extra bleeding for me, but I’m recovering well and feeling stronger every day. We’ve already taken a couple of very slow neighborhood walks and the big sibling is completely smitten. So am I.
I can’t wait to hear what you think of The Other Mother. If you pick it up, send me a note and tell me where in the book you gasped. I have a few guesses.
Happy reading, and thank you for being here.
xo, Kate
